A message to the campus community from Facilities Services
regarding our plans for the rollover to January 1, 2000:

Facilities staff began preparations for 01/01/00 nearly 12 months ago. More than 300 individual controls, in campus buildings and at our Central Power Station were evaluated for potential rollover problems. Upgrades or new installations are now in place for all critical or significant systems.

Of the original list of 300+, only a dozen items remain, none of which pose serious problems. We have a very high level of confidence in our systems, as well as our ability to respond as needed should problems occur. Discussions with EWEB and Northwest Natural provided us with valuable information throughout this preparation period.

New Year's Eve Service. A number of Facilities personnel are working New Year's Eve, beginning at 8:00 p.m., remaining on campus until at least 1:00 a.m. on the 1st. Additional staff will be on standby, available to report to campus if needed. During this time (8:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.), our Customer Service Center phone line will be staffed (346-2319) to receive information about problems on campus and to dispatch workers as needed.

Information Line. Also during this time and throughout the following weekend, an information line will be available at 346-5272 to provide callers with updated information on the status of campus operations.

Please Power Down prior to December 31st. We do have one request of you and others in your departments. When you leave campus for the last time prior to the 31st, please power down all of your computers, other electrical equipment, appliances, etc. to the greatest extent possible. The lesser the electrical load, the greater our ability to provide emergency service to the campus should that become necessary.
